Free Local Calling

“Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you”.  -Jeremiah 29:12

Did you ever know that person?  Maybe you still know that person.  You know, the “professional prayer guy”.  He or she can pray forever, never taking a breath.  They can cover all categories and use just the right amount of “thees” and “thous” and even know WHEN to use them properly!  These folks are impressive.  Sometimes intimidating.  I grew up around a lot of these types of prayers.  I have to admit, I didn’t even know what they were praying about half the time.  I just knew that I couldn’t pray like that and I think it kept me from praying at times.  As I have gotten a tiny bit older I have come to realize that prayer doesn’t have to be about Biblical vocabulary.  I have learned that prayer doesn’t have to be fancy.  I understand that prayer can be, and for me usually is, quite simple.  Don’t get me wrong.  I’m not suggesting that there is anything wrong with the “complex” prayer.  I truly believe that some people have been given a gift from God to be able to pray in the manner they do.  But, He didn’t give me that gift.  Fortunately, God doesn’t need us to have that gift.  He just wants us to talk to Him.  He just wants us to call on Him.  He just wants us to ask.  You don’t have to worry about getting a ticket or having an accident because you don’t have to text Him.  Just talk.  You don’t have to worry about driving all over town to meet with Him somewhere.  He IS wherever you are.  You don’t have to worry about disturbing others by talking too loud.  Just whisper.  No cellular minutes used up, these conversations are free.  The only issue with prayer that needs to concern you, is if you aren’t doing it.  Depending on which translation of the Bible you are reading, the word “pray” is consistently mentioned over 100 times.  He wants you to talk to Him.  It’s always a local call.
